The Benefits of Encouraging Kids to Read

The Benefits of Encouraging Kids to Read

Some kids have always had the interest in reading the moment they learned to. Some were encouraged to read. There are some kids who have lost interest in reading as soon as they learned how to. Why is it important that we always encourage our kids to read? What is in it for our children?

As a provider of preschool programs in Rego Park, New York, we believe that reading to kids is beneficial to them in the following ways:

  1. Mental ability
Knowing how to read and indulging in the chances of reading more is good for children’s mental capabilities. Through reading, they learn lessons they can apply to their own lives. Their imagination and creativity are improved and enhanced. They are open to different influences of writing which improves their thinking.
  2. Mental exercise
Reading is a way of exercising the mind. When a child’s mind absorbs more information, the more the brain’s capability to absorb more in stretched. The brain is trained to learn progressively at a natural level. A child’s brain is spongy and flexible, young and capable of learning many things as they grow up.
  3. Literate
Reading helps children become literacy-smart. They tend to learn better grammar and punctuation. As they grow up, learners who love to read can write better essays and have better skills in composing outputs. Soon enough, as they grow up, they may not have a book they have not read already.
  4. Comprehension
Children who read a lot can comprehend reading materials better than children who do not read. They are better at understanding what they read faster, too. They also have better memorization than the other children who are not fond of reading. Moreover, they become visual and audio learners because of all the reading they do.
  5. Wise and smart
They are wiser and smarter with the way they perceive things. For all the books that they have read, they pick up the lessons and tend to analyze the knowledge they have absorbed. They have more ideas and become better at deciding for themselves. Books come with different lessons and different stories – children would then have a lot of influences to the choices they make as they grow up.
  6. Improved thinking
Readers have an improved way of thinking, hence giving them the potential to excel in their academics. They become aware of their surroundings and learn to observe. They are aware of the culture of people. Their improved analyses of their social, mental and physical surroundings are well-executed. They always think outside of the box.
